Who Am I Today?

Today, I am an overeager little child. I like sunshine and daisies and pink lemonade. I am also a cranky old man. I want to be left alone in a too-big too-dusty house full of memories I can't escape.
Today, I am asleep and dreaming happy dreams. I am awake and seeing the cruelty in the world.
I am a kitten playing with a ball of yarn, and an old dog sleeping on a couch, wondering when her owner will get home.
Today, I am two young turkeys standing beside a road, looking for their owners in every car that passes by.
I am a woman, not yet fifty, in severe pain.
I am a fire, roaring and sparking, happy to warm my house and its inhabitants.
Today, I am a little girl, following her big brothers through the snow, happy to be included in their adventures. I am an older girl whose big brothers have grown up and whose adventures no longer include me.
Today, I am several mes, and tomorrow I will be several more.
